Which villa allows a legally binding ceremony on-site?
As we understand it, Villa Parravicino Sossnovsky, in Erba, can host legally binding civil ceremonies on the property itself, while at Villa Revel on-site ceremonies are symbolic and the legal act is completed separately. Rules can change, so please confirm the current position with us and your planner.
This one point settles more decisions than any other. If it matters to you that the words you exchange in front of your guests are the same words that make you legally married, in the same place on the same afternoon, then Villa Parravicino is likely your answer. We understand its civil ceremony can be recognised on-site, but please confirm this with us and your planner before you rely on it.
At Villa Revel, the on-site celebration is symbolic: you exchange vows and readings on the waterfront, and the binding legal formalities are handled beforehand or separately. Which suits a larger wedding?
Villa Parravicino comfortably hosts the larger celebration, up to around 140 guests, while Villa Revel is the more intimate of the two, seating around 60 to 70 for a symbolic ceremony and up to about 90 for a religious rite.
Guest count is the second thing to settle. A wedding of 120 or more sits comfortably in the walled park at Villa Parravicino, where there is room for a marquee and a large seated dinner without feeling crowded.
Villa Revel suits a smaller, more personal guest list, where no one sits far from the water. These capacities are approximate and depend on your layout, so please treat them as a guide and confirm the exact numbers with us for the date and format you have in mind.
Which one puts us right on Lake Como?
Villa Revel. It sits directly on the Como waterfront with private lake access. Villa Parravicino is an inland estate near the lake, about 16 minutes by car from Como.
If you want vows with the water at your back, a first dance as the lake turns gold, or arriving by boat, only Villa Revel gives you that. At Villa Revel the lake is not a view in the distance; it is where your celebration takes place.
Villa Parravicino is different: an inland heritage estate, close enough to reach Como in about a quarter of an hour, but set apart in its own old parkland. The choice really comes down to water or parkland.
Which is easier for guests to reach?
Both sit inside the Milan–Malpensa–Lake Como triangle, so travel is straightforward either way. Villa Parravicino, in Erba, is roughly 50 minutes from Malpensa and about 45 from Milan; Villa Revel is in Como city, on the lake.
Neither villa asks your guests for a long or complicated journey. Drive times are approximate and depend on traffic and your exact route, but as a rule of thumb Villa Parravicino is about 50 minutes from Malpensa airport and around 45 minutes from central Milan.
Villa Revel has a lakeside address within Como city, with boat transfers on the water if you want them. Which offers more privacy?
Both villas are exclusive-use, one wedding at a time, the whole estate yours. Villa Parravicino’s walled park is the more secluded of the two; Villa Revel trades a little seclusion for an iconic lakefront address.
Privacy is a given at either address. You will never share your day with another party, and the entire property is reserved for you and your guests alone.
Where they differ is in character. The walled park at Villa Parravicino keeps your celebration quiet and out of sight beyond its gates. Villa Revel is more openly part of the lake's life, which is both the trade-off and the reward of standing on one of the most photographed shorelines in Italy.
Which suits our season and light?
Villa Revel is at its best in peak-summer lake light and at golden hour on the water. Villa Parravicino's old park, with its giant Lebanese cedar, gives shade from late spring through to autumn.
Think about when you want to marry and how you want the light to fall. A high-summer Lake Como wedding, with long evenings reflecting off the water, is Villa Revel at its best.
If you want a longer season or shade on a warm afternoon, the old planting at Villa Parravicino works well from late spring to autumn, and its tall cedar gives photographs a depth that only old parkland can. Both are lovely; they are just at their best at different times.
