Where is Brianza, and why haven’t I heard of it?
Brianza is a green, hilly region of Lombardy at the foot of the Alps, between Milan and Lake Como. It is where Milanese nobility built their summer villas for centuries: the same landscape as Lake Como, but far less known internationally.
If you have spent months reading about Lake Como weddings, you have probably never come across Brianza. There is nothing hidden about it; it is simply less known internationally than the lake. For generations the great Milanese families did not summer on the crowded shoreline. They went a few kilometres inland, to the hills and mild pre-Alpine air of Brianza, and built their ville di delizia, their villas of pleasure.

Is Brianza actually close to Lake Como?

This is the point most couples want to hear twice, because it changes the picture. Choosing Brianza does not mean turning your back on Lake Como. Erba is only about 15 to 16 kilometres from the city of Como, roughly a 16 to 20 minute drive depending on traffic, so the lake stays within easy reach for a rehearsal lunch, a welcome aperitivo on the water or a day of sightseeing for your guests.
The region has water of its own too. The quiet pre-Alpine lakes of Pusiano and Annone sit close by, glassy and uncrowded, ringed by reeds and low hills. You are not exiled from the lake country. You are in a less trodden part of it, with the famous shoreline a short transfer away whenever you want it.
How do our guests get there from Milan and the airports?

Why choose an inland historic estate over a lakefront villa?

A lakefront address is romantic, but it comes with trade-offs that rarely appear in the photographs: ferry traffic and passing boats within earshot of your vows, narrow shoreline roads, scarce parking, and plots that press right up against public paths. What is there to see and do nearby?
